Get a Library Card

If you live in our service area, you may get a library card free of charge, as part of your tax-supported library service.Your library card allows you to:

  • Borrow books and other circulating library material from us and from most other public libraries in Illinois.
  • Use special online collections to find magazine articles and information you can’t get just by searching the web.
  • Use our public computers.

Adults wishing to register for a borrower’s card, to renew an expired borrower’s card, or to replace a lost, stolen, damaged or destroyed borrower’s card at the Marengo-Union Library District must bring with them two forms of identification, at least one of which bears their name and address. These forms of identification include, but are not limited to driver’s license, utility bills, mail, or voter’s registration card.

Children under the age of 18 must have a parent’s signature on any initial application for a library card. The application must be completed with both the child and adult present in the library. Children under the age of 16 may use the proof of residency provided by their parent. Children 16 and over may choose to provide their own proof of residency, or use that of their parent. In addition, a child must be at least 4 years of age to receive their own individual library card. Children under 4 years of age must use a parent’s or guardian’s library card.

For those outside of our service area, there is a $120 yearly fee which covers all members in your household.
