Who: This program is for all babies, toddlers, and preschoolers, who have not yet started kindergarten.
What: The building of early literacy skills and the development of new readers.
Why: To lay a foundation for future learning success.
When: Immediately! It is never too early to start.
How: Follow these four easy step!
Step 1: Pick up your 1000 Books Before Kindergarten folder from the front desk. Feel free to decorate your folder and make it uniquely yours.
Step 2: Read together! It is perfectly acceptable to read a title multiple times. In fact, repetition is a great way to learn. Track each book read by coloring in or circling a book on your log. You can also track your reading online at muldreads.readsquared.com. Do not forget to include books from Library storytimes, or even digital copies.
Step 3: Return each completed sheet of 100 books to the Library for a small prize. you will also receive a flower or insect to add to our literacy garden.
Step 4: This ongoing program ends when the child enters Kindergarten or has completed 1000 books! Upon completion, your child will receive a hardcover book with certificate and an invitation to the Completion Celebration!

If you read 1 book per night, you’ll reach 1,000 books before 3 years have passed!
If you read 2 books per night, you’ll reach 1,000 books before 2 years have passed!
If you read 3 books per night, you’ll reach 1,000 books before 1 year has passed!
