Don’t Fry Day

Today is National Sunscreen Day. Also known as “Don’t Fry Day”.

Mrs. Penny will talk about different ways to stay safe in the sun. Wearing a hat, applying sunblock, wearing sunglasses, and staying in the shade are all good ways to protect yourself from the powerful UVB rays.

In your STEAM kit you will find:

• UV sensitive beads
• Pipe cleaners
• Googly eyes

You will also receive some random supplies to construct a shelter for your animal. You will be able to tell if your animal had enough shelter to keep it safe exposed to the sun. If the beads remain white, you’ve done a super job! Now trying drawing a picture on the sheet of black paper with the sunblock also included in your kit. Put your sunblock drawing by a window or outside. Check on it in 20 minutes. Note what happened to the part of your drawing that has sunblock on it.

Lever & Fulcrum

April, 13th 2021

We are celebrating Earth by using recycled materials. As an added bonus you will also learn about the function of levers and fulcrum in things you use every day!

The materials you will need to create this craft are:

• 1 toilet paper roll
• 1 skewer or chopstick
• 2 empty coffee pods
• handful of pom poms in different colors and sizes
• glue
• scissors
